Qi Zhang

Qi Zhang graduated from Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1969, assigned to HeiLongjiang Province for nearly 10 years. Being one of the three founders of Yanshou Electronics Factory, Qi Zhang has taken the position of Deputy Director General, later Director General for 7 year.
Having been shifted back to Beijing, Qi Zhang was involved in preparing the setup of National Bureau of Computer. Qi Zhang has been in the Ministry of Information Industry for 21 years, in the meantime, having worked successively in National Bureau of Computer, Bureau of Computer Industrial Management, Bureau of Computer and Information, and Department of Electronics and I.T. Products. Qi Zhang was appointed deputy Director General in 1993, promoted to Director General in 1997, and now is the Director General of Department of Electronic & I.T. Products of Ministry of Information Industry.
Information Construction was place onto the agenda in 1993. A series of "Gold" projects of  Information Construction were successively launched. Qi Zhang drafted "Overall Frame of Golden Project" for Electronics Ministry in July, 1993, launched "Proposal of  Golden Tax Plan" in January, 1994, and was also one of the two drafters for "National Computer Supervision Internet Plan of Golden Project" in February. Since 1993 Qi Zhang concurrently has hold the positions of Director of Golden Trade Project Office, Director of Golden Bridge Project Office, and Director of Information Office of Electronics Ministry, coordinating the series of "Gold" Projects. State Council instructed the Ministry of Information Industry to coordinate and supervise the Y2K problems. Qi Zhang was assigned to be the leader of Y2K group work group of Ministry of Information Industry, in charge of the coordination and technical services.
Qi Zhang is also the President of China E-commerce, a non-governmental organization being a bridge among government, industry and customers and contributing on the development of modern electrical information industry and acceleration of information construction.

Charles Nesson

Charles Nesson is the William F. Weld Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. After graduating summa cum laude from Harvard Law in 1963, he clerked for Justice Harlan of the Supreme Court and served as a special assistant to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. Walter Kuemmerle

Walter Kuemmerle is an assistant professor of business administration at the Harvard Business School, with a joint appointment in the Entrepreneurial Management and Technology & Operations Management faculty groups.
Professor Kuemmerle's research and teaching interests fall within the domain of knowledge and capital management in a global economy. More specifically, he is interested in venture capital, foreign direct investment and technology strategy. Presently, he studies venture capital systems and entrepreneurship in different countries. He also studies the factors that induce firms to establish R&D sites in foreign countries. In a related study he examines how new technologies influence the value of strategic assets in the pharmaceutical industry.
Professor Kuemmerle holds a Master's degree in Industrial Economics from the Koblenz School of Corporate Management in Germany where he graduated best in his class in 1992. In 1996 he earned a Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialization in strategy and business policy at the Harvard Business School. His thesis, "Home Base and Foreign Direct Investment in R&D," was awarded the George S. Dively Award for the best thesis research proposed in 1995 at the Harvard Business School. Kuemmerle also holds a degree in Commerce from Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Lyon/France and has studied both at Kobe University and Keio University in Japan.
Professor Kuemmerle's research has appeared in academic journals, and several bookchapters. Kuemmerle has worked as a consultant to a number of companies. His work experience prior to joining the Harvard Business School was in banking (Deutsche Bank AG, Goldman Sachs), consulting (McKinsey & Company), chemicals (Hoechst Group) and pharmaceuticals (Eisai Co. Prior to joining Lycos, Gerritsen had successfully started pan-Asian multimedia business units for both Longman Asia Multimedia, a division of Addison-Wesley Longman, and Philips Interactive Media Asia Pacific Ltd. Gerritsen also was founder and managing director of Multimedia Asia Ltd., a company that provided interactive multimedia product design and production services to publishers,
industry and government in the Asia/Pacific region. Gerritsen has over fifteen years. experience in the media/software industries.  He holds a bachelor of arts degree with honors in philosophy from  Queen. s University.

Hurst Lin
Co-Founder, U.S. General Manager, VP-Business Development, SINA.com
Hurst Lin is the U.S. General Manager and Vice President of Business Development for SINA.com.  He is also the co-founder of SINANET, a corporate predecessor of SINA.com, which merged with SRS, a major China software developer and Internet services company, to form SINA.com in 1999. 
Prior to working with SINA, Hurst served as a consultant with Ernst & Young Management Consulting Group, focusing on marketing and operations in telecommunications and technology companies. He has also held marketing, engineering and management positions at Octel Communication, Inc. and NYNEX.   He received his MBA from Stanford University and holds a bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from Dartmouth College.

Ronald Suleski
Associate, Fairbank Center for Aisian Studies
Ronald Suleski has spent nearly two decades living and working in Asia and he has visited virtually every major city in the region to conduct business. He has made regular visits to China since 1976.
He served as Managing Director for Asia with several US/UK educational publishers and has seen the information industry in China evolve from the days of a weak infrastructure where gaining access to quality paper for printing was difficult, to the present day where the Internet and the World Wide Web are truly revolutionizing all geographic areas of China.
He is a Research Associate at the Fairbank Center for East Asian Research at Harvard. He received his Ph.D. in Modern Chinese History from the University of Michigan.

Joseph Chen
Co-founder, Chairman and CEO ChinaRen, Inc .
Mr. Joseph Chen, aged 30, is the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of ChinaRen, Inc.
In his work experience, Mr. Chen was associated with Altec Industries, a manufacturing company with global presence.  Started as technical support manager for Asia, Mr. Chen was later promoted to the position of area manager for Northeast Asia with P&L responsibilities.
Mr. Chen founded ChinaRen.com with two co-founders in 1999 after he obtained his Master degree in Business Administration from Stanford University.
Trained as a physicist and an engineer, Mr. Chen had been very active in participating in technology projects at Stanford.  He was involved in organizing China Internet Forum at Stanford and actively managed and participated in various hi-tech activities in Silicon Valley.  Joseph Chen also spent an internship with Bain & Company, where he consulted with a regional wireless communications company.
In addition to his MBA, Mr. Chen also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Delaware and a Master degree in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Yat Siu
CEO, Outblaze
Yat Siu is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Outblaze. He is responsible for managing the delivery of projects and rolling out of products and services for the company. Yat entered the I.T. industry working with Atari Germany in 1990. By the end of 1992, he was a shareholder, director, and head of East Coast operations in Boston for Lexicor, a professional graphics software company based in Silicon Valley. By 1994, he was a co-founder, shareholder, and vice president of Radiance Software, a US software development company that was later sold to Silicon Graphics Inc. to become part of the SGI WebForce. In 1996, in Hong Kong, he founded Hong Kong Cybercity (later renamed Freenation), the first free web page and e-mail provider in Asia. Cybercity/Freenation rapidly grew to over 320,000 members and was acquired in 1998 by a US based investment group. In 1997, Yat worked at AT&T Solutions in their Systems Integration Practice as a Senior Architect where he managed networking and development projects for VPN and other Internet related applications for major Banking Institutions and ISPs. In 1998, he left AT&T to start Outblaze. Yat holds a degree in music from the University of Vienna. He is also a certified Project Manager from AT&T.
 

Joseph Tzeng
Managing Director, Crystal Internet Ventures

Mr. Joseph Tzeng, Managing Director, has been an active participant in the information and computer industries for the last twenty years. He has been involved with the development and growth of several successful technology-based companies including workstation and PC manufacturing/sales and Internet services. Mr. Tzeng had held business interests in several hardware and software enterprises with many Internet contents. Mr. Tzeng is broadly fluent in current computer and information technologies. Mr. Tzeng received his MS degree at Case Western Reserve University in Computer Engineering and Information Sciences and holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Electronics Engineering from National Chiao-Tung University. David Saunders

David Saunders is General Manager of chinadotcom corporation. s new incubator, Jump Start.  He will take the programme, focusing on growing ideas into successful dot-coms, right across Asia-Pacific.
David is accountable for identifying and implementing start-up investments.  He oversees the day-to-day operations of Jump Start and generate revenue models from these investments for the corporation.  Working closely with the incubatees, he gives strategic advice to fast-track them into a viable, sustainable business.
David has his management and finance roots out of Canada and Wall Street.  He started Jump Start for chinadotcom in July, 1999, and has since consolidated a portfolio of incubatees that immediately enhances the content of the chinadotcom portals.  With his vision and knowledge, David is destined to lead Jump Start to become the leading incubator across the region.

Xinhua Howard Zhang
Attorney at Foley, Hoag & Eliot LLP
Xinhua Howard Zhang, an attorney at Foley, Hoag & Eliot LLP, practices in the firm's business department, with an emphasis on international transactions, venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions,  and public offerings of securities.  Mr. Zhang has been involved in many of China's Internet companies, including Sohu.com, 8848.Net, eLong.com, MeetChina.com, Eachnet.com, CPCW.com, among many others, representing either the investors or the companies.  He is the principal lawyer for IDG (China) Ventures and E.M. Warburg, Pincus Asia Ltd.
Mr. Zhang received his B.A. from Shanghai University of International Studies, a post-graduate certificate from Beijing University of International Studies, United Nations Training Program, and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, where he was the topics editor of the Boston University International Law Review and a recipient of the Am Jurisprudence Award.

Peter Chu
Managing Director of AsiaTech Ventures
Peter Chu is Managing Director of AsiaTech Ventures U.S. in Silicon Valley. Peter brings with him valuable large and small company management experience. Most recently he was President and Executive Producer at Channel A, an Internet content and commerce start-up focused on delivering Asia-related content and products to western consumers on the Internet. As a member of the founding team he helped shape the strategy, build the team and deliver content and commerce to consumers on the Internet.
Prior to Channel A, Mr. Chu was a founding member and Marketing Director at Envive Corp., a client/server software company in the ERP market. Mr. Chu helped develop the product strategy and business plan of the company. Mr. Chu was Product Manager for the flagship Topic product line at Verity Corp., a leading provider of search engine and information management systems. Mr. Chu also spent many years at Oracle Corporation where he participated in the growth of company from $50M to over $2Bn in revenues. He had held a variety of marketing and management positions at Oracle, and he was an early teammember in building Oracle's international division.
Mr. Chu has been advising Internet content and commerce start-ups and Asia-based businesses. He has been active in the Silicon Valley community organizations such as Stanford University, Monte Jade Association, CSPA, and HBSA/NC. Mr. Chu is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Dr. James Ho-chien Liao
General Partner of DynaFund Ventures
Dr. James Ho-chien Liao is a General Partner of DynaFund Ventures, a Los Angeles-based venture capital fund that was launched in August 1997 with commitments of $63 million. The fund. s primary focus is on early stage information technology, microelectronics and telecommunications firms in the United States, but it also will consider later stage opportunities if they fit within the overall scope of the fund. DynaFund provides promising technology companies with the investment capital and management support they need to grow their business. In addition, DynaFund also provides a critical competitive advantage to its portfolio companies by offering access to key engineering, manufacturing, and marketing resources in the U.S. and Asia through its own business networks and the complementary networks of its U.S. and Asian Limited Partners.
On May 20, 1999 DynaFund successfully brought its portfolio company eToys to a successful IPO with current market valuations of over US$7 billion.  Dr. Liao is also involved with the board of directors of several of DynaFund portfolio companies, including Single Chip Systems, Aetas Technology Inc., DynaChip, and Troika Systems, and Duality Semiconductors.
In addition to his duties with DynaFund, Dr. Liao is also the senior Vice President of Dynamics Technology, Inc. (DTI), a business established in 1976 to engage in theoretical and experimental studies, primarily serving the U.S. Government R&D sectors as well as venture investments in commercial Hi-Tech start ups.  Recent success of DTI includes a successful IPO on July 20, 1999 for its portfolio company, Gadzoox Networks with current market valuation of  US$1.5 billion.  Within DTI, Dr. Liao has served as directors for several portfolio companies, including Sonic Desktop Software, Dynatech Taiwan Corporation, Visionetics International.
Dr. Liao was a Senior Program Manager at Xerox Corporation prior to his joining DTI in 1992.  His career at Xerox includes senior management responsibilities at Xerox Microelectronic Center, a division of designing, developing and manufacturing VLSI chips for Xerox products.  Prior to Xerox, Dr. Liao was with Burroughs Corporation, now Unisys.

Francis Bassolino
Senior Manager, Chinese Business Services
As a Senior Manager for Deloitte & Touche's Chinese Business Services, Francis is responsible for inbound and outbound China-related business.  He specializes in cross border investing evaluating joint venture partners, devising entry and expansion strategies, conducting financial due diligence reviews and raising capital.  He works closely with government agencies, state-owned enterprises and multinational companies on engagements involving mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic planning.  Fluent in Mandarin, Francis lived in China for seven years.  He holds an advanced degree from the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies, sits on the Board of the Asian Financial Society, and is a member of the United States of America-China Chamber of Commerce. A frequent speaker at China business conferences, he is published and quoted in the press regularly.
