China
Initiative, JFK School of Government at Harvard University
Since
its inception in 1996, the Kennedy School's China Initiative
has
supported training of Chinese officials to enhance their
capacity to manage
policy in their rapidly changing domestic and international
policy environments. By integrating into the Kennedy
School community as students, executive program participants
and researchers, Chinese officials gain maximum exposure
to a diverse, international audience. Following their
stay at the Kennedy School, they become part of a world-wide
network of public sector professionals who continue
to shape the political and economic futures of their
countries.
School
of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University
At
present, China's political and economic reforms have
intensified, and both the mission and functions of governmental
agencies at all levels have undergone fundamental changes.
These changes have demanded a new generation of public
servants and senior managers in all public sectors,
and also have presented new challenges to research in
public policy and management. To meet these challenges,
Tsinghua University decided to establish School of Public
Policy & Management on the basis of Department of Public
Affairs and Development Research Academy for the 21st
Century.
Tsinghua University's objective is to become a world-class
university with Chinese characteristics. To achieve
this goal, it has made great efforts to accelerate the
development of humanities, social sciences and legal
disciplines while fully exploiting its traditional strength
in natural sciences, engineering and economic management.
Promotion of education and research in public policy
and management is an integral part of this initiative.
We believe that the advantages of Tsinghua University
from the combination of multiple disciplines, excellent
research and teaching facilities and environment, and
abundant experiences in training first-class scholars
have established solid foundation for the development
of our school.
Professor Chen Qingtai, Deputy Director of the Development
Research Center of the State Council, will serve as
the first dean of the school.
