Walking from Harvard Subway Stop and Harvard Square

The Science Center is a short walk from the Harvard stop on the Red Line of Boston's MBTA ("T") subway system, which is located at Harvard Square. Once you are in Harvard Square, stand at Out of Town News with the Harvard Coop across the street to your left and Abercrombie and Fitch behind you. About 250M distant, you will see a light gray stone building with columns. This is Littauer Hall, which is next to the Science Center. Walk through or around Harvard Yard to get to the Science Center.

Driving from Harvard Square

Harvard Square is where JFK Street meets Mass Ave, and can be recognized by large newspaper kiosk in its center named Out of Town News. As you travel North beyond Out of Town News, get in the middle lane. After the first light, the road forks. Bear right at the fork, and stay in the left-most lane. After the underpass, the road forks again. Bear left, and turn left at the next light, onto Quincy Street. At the next light, turn left onto Kirkland Street. Kirkland Street ends after a block, and you must turn right onto Oxford Street. You will see the Science Center at your left-hand side when you are on Oxford Street. (You may want to note that parking can be difficult to find around here.).

Driving from Boston via Massachusetts Avenue

Driving on I-90

Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East to Exit 18, Cambridge/Allston. This is a left exit. After the toll booth, bear right. Turn turn left onto Storrow Drive after the lights, but before the the bridge. Proceed about 1/2 mile to the Cambridge/Harvard Square exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto JFK Street. Cross the bridge over the Charles River and proceed to the center of Harvard Square (where Out of Town News is on the right and the Harvard Coop is on the left). Please note, slight delay at the Bridge could occur due to the "Walk for Hunger" event. Refer to direction for Driving from Harvard Square directions, above.

Driving on I-93 (North)

Take I-93 north to exit 26, Storrow Drive. Keep left on the exit ramp and take the underpass to Storrow Drive. Continue on Storrow Drive about 4 miles to the Cambridge/Harvard Square exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto JFK Street. Cross the bridge over the Charles River and proceed to the center of Harvard Square (where Out of Town News is on the right and the Harvard Coop is on the left). Driving on I-93 (South)

Take I-93 South to Exit 26, Storrow Drive. Keep left on the exit ramp and take the underpass to Storrow Drive. Continue on Storrow Drive about 4 miles to the Cambridge/Harvard Square exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto JFK Street. Cross the bridge over the Charles River and proceed to the center of Harvard Square (where Out of Town News is on the right and the Harvard Coop is on the left). Driving on Route 2

Take Route 2 East and follow until the highway portion ends. Bear right, but do not take the "T" garage exit. Continue through the lights, remaining on Route 2. Pass the "T" station/garage on the right. Go over the bridge. At the rotary, continue on Route 2 East by taking the second exit. At the next rotary, take the first exit, and continue on Route 2/Fresh Pond Parkway. At the intersection with Brattle St. turn left. Take a right at the Hawthorn St. At the first light, take a left onto Mount Auburn St. Mount Auburn St. runs into JFK Street. Take a left at JFK Street. Proceed to the center of Harvard Square (where Out of Town News is on the right and the Harvard Coop is on the left). Refer to direction for Driving from Harvard Square directions, above.

Driving on Route 128 (I-95)

Take the exit for Route 2 East to Arlington and Boston. Travel approximately 6.5 miles, until you reach a rotary. Bear left as you approach the rotary and follow signs for 3 North and 16 East to Medford. At the first light, turn right onto Mass. Ave. Proceed 1.8 miles (15 traffic lights) to the intersection where Chauncy Street is on the right and Everett Street is on the left. Turn left onto Everett Street. At the next light, turn right onto Oxford Street. Proceed to your next right, which is the driveway for 33 Oxford Street (the Maxwell Dworkin building). There is also a sign (red with white lettering) at the driveway that lists Littauer Center, among other destinations. Turn into the driveway and follow it until the end. The driveway winds through several parking lots and finally ends in a circular drive. The back entrance of Littauer (a large, light gray stone building) opens onto the circular drive.  The Science Center Should be visible next to Litteauer.

By Public Transportation, from Logan Airport

The Massport shuttle bus stops outside all airline terminals. Take the shuttle bus to the Airport subway stop (MBTA stop). From here, take the Blue Line inbound to Government Center. At Government Center, get off and go upstairs to the Green Line. Go inbound one stop to Park Street. Go downstairs and take the Red Line outbound (towards Alewife) to Harvard. By Public Transportation, from South Station

The MBTA stop is located outside the train station, which is right next to the Bus Terminal.

Take the Red Line inbound (towards Alewife) to Harvard. Refer to Walking from Harvard Subway Stop and Harvard Square above. (Travel time: 15-20 minutes; Cost: $1.00)

Travel Time: 20-30 minutes; Cost: $25-$30 plus tip.
