Chang, David C.

Dr. David C. Chang, an internationally recognized
scholar in the field of electromagnetics, was named the ninth President
of Polytechnic University in 1994. Previously he was Dean of the College
of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Arizona State University and Professor
of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Chang holds a master's and doctoral degree in applied physics from
Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from National Cheng-Kung University
in Taiwan. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Past President of the IEEE Professional
Society on Antennas and Radio Union, to name a few of his professional
affiliations. In 2000, Dr. Chang was awarded the IEEE Third Millennium
Medal for his contributions to the field of antennas and propagation.
Dr. Chang serves in a number of civic capacities including: Chair, Finance
and Administration Committee, Commission on Independent Colleges &
Universities (CICU); Fellow, New York Academy of Sciences; member, Mayor
Michael Bloomberg's Committee on Appointments; member, NYC's Panel on
Education Policy; member, Mayoral Advisory Task Force on Stimulating Growth
and Diversity in NYC Economy; Executive Committee, Downtown Brooklyn Council;
member, Committee on Student Aid, NAICU, Board member, NACME. He is also
a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; serves on the Advisory Council

Ms. Chen, Yongling

Ms. Chen is the Deputy Director General of the All-China
Women¡¯s Federation¡¯s International Liaison Department after serving as
Director of the International Cooperation Division at the Department.
Her extensive experience coordinating with international agencies at the
Federation prepared her for her position at the United Nations from 1993
to1996 as the Social Affairs Officer in the Department of Policy Coordination
and Sustainable Development, and she went on to work closely with international
agencies including UNICEF and UNDP to initiate and manage assistance projects
aimed at improving the welfare of women in China after she returned to
the Federation.

Scott is a 16-year veteran of Ogilvy Public Relations
Worldwide with public relations experience covering the United States,
Taiwan and China markets. Scott oversees the overall Ogilvy PR operation
in China, leading a team of 70 in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Scott
is one of the two founding members of Ogilvy PR in China and plays a pivotal
role in the overall leadership and management of the firm. Scott also

Stephen Lam is the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government. He
assumed the current position on 1 July 2002, when he left the Civil Service
and joined the team of Government Secretaries who are all politically
appointed.
As Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr. Lam oversees the implementation
of the Basic Law and the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. Apart from
facilitating the development of HKSAR's external affairs, he is also responsible
for formulating policies on electoral affairs. He is a Member of the Executive
Council, the highest policy-making body in HKSAR.
Mr. Lam joined the Civil Service in October 1978 and has held many positions
in the Administration, including aviation, constitutional affairs, housing
and tourism.
Mr. Lam was educated in Hong Kong and received a Bachelor of Social Sciences
degree from the University of Hong Kong. He also qualified as Barrister-at-law
at Gray's Inn, London.
Mr. Lam is married and has two daughters. |

Jing Lin is an associate professor in the Program
in International Education Policy. After having worked at McGill University
in Canada for eight years, she joined the University of Maryland in
2000.
Prof. Lin's research includes social transformation and challenges to
equity issues in education; the development of all forms of private
schools as alternatives for education provision; women's social status
and girls' education; and problems and issues concerning education for
the ethnic minorities. She has systematically examined politics, culture
and education in China, and studied social, cultural, economic and political
changes in the reform era and dilemmas of education facing primary and
secondary schools today.
Prof. Lin has published extensively. Her most representative publications
are four books: The Red Guards' Path to Violence (1991), Education
in Post-Mao China (1993), The Opening of the Chinese Mind
(1994), and Social Transformation and Private Education in China
(1999). Currently, she sits on the board of directors for the Comparative

Yuanli Liu is an Assistant Professor of International
Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. With a rich background
in medicine and economics, Professor Liu has conducted extensive research,
consulting, and teaching projects on health system analysis and reforms,
health care financing and health insurance schemes, as well as health
and economic development. He has served as an advisor and consultant to
the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries and international organizations
such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Health Organization,
and UNICEF. He currently serves on the UN Task Force For HIV/AIDS, TB,
Malaria, and Access to Basic Medicines. He has been closely involved in
helping design, monitor, and evaluate China's rural and urban health system

recent study by Professor Liu on China's rural health insurance as having

Dr. Lui Che Woo is Founder and Chairman of K. Wah
Group which mainly involves construction materials, properties and hotels
and has over 200 subsidiaries and nearly 10,000 employees worldwide.
A pioneer in the automation in quarrying, Dr. Lui introduced modernized
machines to the Hong Kong quarrying industry and was acclaimed by the
media as "the King of Quarry" in the late 1970s. In 2002, Dr. Lui successfully

research lab, Henri Petit began his Kodak career in 1975 as assistant

located in London. In December 1992, he was appointed corporate vice president

Adam Segal is the Maurice R. Greenberg Senior Fellow
in China Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. An expert on Chinese

Diplomacy, Tufts University. He is currently the project director for

Mr. Shong was the founding partner of IDG Technology
Venture Investment (formerly known as Pacific Technology Venture Fund)
in 1993, which was described by New York Times as China's first technology
venture fund. It has invested in over 90 technology-related deals and
having over $200 million under management in China.
Mr. Shong joined IDG in November, 1991 after working three years as managing
editor at Electronic Business China, Electronic Business Asia and EDN
Asia at Cahners Publishing (now Reed Business Information).
Mr. Shong completed Harvard Business School's AMP program in 1996, and
graduated with an M.S. degree from Boston University's College of Communication
in 1987 before studying on a research fellowship program at the Fletcher

Prof. Vogel, Ezra F.
Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences,
Emeritus, Harvard University

|
Ezra F. Vogel is the Henry Ford II Research Professor
at Harvard. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan in 1950 and serving
two years in the U.S. Army, he studied sociology in the Department of
Social Relations at Harvard, receiving his Ph.D. in 1958. He then went
to Japan for two years to study the Japanese language and conduct research
interviews with middle-class families. In 1960-1961 he was assistant
professor at Yale University and from 1961-1964 a post-doctoral fellow
at Harvard, studying Chinese language and history. He remained at Harvard,
becoming lecturer in 1964 and, in 1967, professor. He retired from teaching
on June 30, 2000.
Vogel succeeded John Fairbank to become the second Director
(1972-1977) of Harvard's East Asian Research Center and Chairman of
the Council for East Asian Studies (1977-1980). He was Director of the
Program on U.S.-Japan Relations at the Center for International Affairs
(1980-1987) and, since 1987, Honorary Director. He was Chairman of the
undergraduate concentration in East Asian Studies from its inception
in 1972 until 1991. He was Director of the Fairbank Center (1995-1999)
and the first Director of the Asia Center (1997-1999). Vogel was Chairman
of the Harvard Committee to Welcome President Jiang Zemin (1998). He
has also served as Co-director of the Asia Foundation Task Force on
East Asian Policy Recommendations for the New Administration (2001).

Dr. Wang is the Nanyang Technological University Professor
of Finance at MIT Sloan School of Management. He received his Ph.D. in
physics in 1985 and his Ph.D. in finance in 1990, from the University
of Pennsylvania. His research is in the area of asset pricing, investments
and risk management. Dr. Wang has served on the editorial board of several
academic journals including the Journal of Financial Markets, Operations
Research, Quantitative Finance, and the Review of Financial Studies. He
is the recipient of the Trefftz Award in 1990, the Batterymarch Fellowship
in 1995 and the Leo Melamed Prize in 1997. Dr. Wang is also a research

Mr. Weld, Jonathan M.

Jonathan Weld is a partner in the global law firm of
Shearman & Sterling. He is normally based in New York. Mr. Weld spent
much of the last two years in Beijing and Hong Kong, as lead legal counsel
for the Bank of China in the restructuring and global IPO of Bank of China
Hong Kong. This US$2.67 billion offering was the first international offering
by a Chinese bank, which it is hoped will serve as a template for modernization
of the PRC banking sector.
Mr. Weld joined Shearman & Sterling in 1967, following graduation
from Harvard College and Cornell Law School. His practice focuses on international
securities and banking law and regulatory issues, usually involving financial
institutions. Shearman & Sterling has acted as legal counsel in more
privatizations of Chinese companies than any other law firm.
He is the author of numerous articles and co-author of Regulation of

Endymion Wilkinson is currently a Senior Fellow at the

Methods) at EALC. Prior to that he was the EU Ambassador to China (1994

in Chinese Price History), he lectured on the History of the Far East
at the University of London before joining the External Relations Department

Claire is a WTO expert with over 15 years of experience
in the international trade law field. She teaches on a full-time basis
as an Assistant Professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San
Diego. Previously, she was a partner and the Director of the WTO Center
at Ernst & Young LLP as well as a partner in the international law
firm of Baker & McKenzie.
Given China’s new entry into the WTO, she currently is assisting
numerous companies with respect to market access issues in China. She
has also provided WTO training classes for groups of Chinese nationals.

search engine and its many applications. Mr. Wu also led a team of engineers
and technical professionals in the design and implementation of Yahoo!'s
e-commerce technologies, which have now been deployed in over a dozen

Dr. Yin is the deputy director of Social Development
Bureau of the State Council Research Office in P. R. China. He received
his M.D. from Shandong Medical University in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Medicine
from Russian Medical Science Academy in 1993.
Currently, Dr. Yin conducts research work in Health Insurance Reform
in China at Harvard School of Public Health as a Takemi Fellow. Since
1994, Dr. Yin has been working as a health policy analyst in State Council
Research Office. He participated in drafting the government documents
for urban social health insurance reform and rural health care reform.
His suggestions and advises in health care reform were accepted by the
top leaders of the central government. He is the author of more than
twenty papers and several books on topics on health care system reform,
health insurance reform and health expenditures in China. Dr. Yin also
serves as a standing member of the Chinese Health Economics Association
and the member of the expert commission under the China AIDS Prevention
Association. He has been awarded the honored professor of Beijing Normal
University and the honored senior researcher of the National Health

Mr. Zhang Hongxi is Ambassador and Consul General
of the People's Republic of China in New York. He is also a member of
the Chinese National Political Consultative Conference, where he serves
on the Committee of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Zhang began his career in 1964 as a staff member in the Policy Research
Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1975, he moved on
to become an Attach¨¦ at the Embassy of People's Republic of China in
Thailand. In 1979, Mr. Zhang joined the Department of Consular Affairs
in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Division Chief. He was
later promoted to the Division Chief and held the post until 1987. After
a two year tour of duty as Counselor at the Embassy of the People's
Republic of China in Australia, Mr. Zhang returned to the Department
of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Deputy Director
General in 1989 and later became Director General. In 1997, Mr. Zhang
became Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Tanzania. In
August of 1999, Mr. Zhang moved on to his current post as Ambassador
and Consul General of the People's Republic of China in New York.
Mr. Zhang was born in June, 1941, in China¡¯s Henan province. He is married
and has two sons. |

Dennis Zhu is Managing Director and Chairman of Greater
China Operating Committee of JPMorgan Chase. He focuses on leading JPMorgan's

Before his current position, Mr. Zhu was head of JPMorgan's investment
banking operations in China since 1999. He was responsible for the firm's

Dr. Zhu's research interests include services marketing
- currently focusing on service failure and recovery issues, technology
management, and international marketing. Her dissertation was on customers'
attitudinal and behavioral responses to technology-based self-service
failures. Her technology management research centers on technology and
marketing integration and has recently been extended to the cross-cultural
contexts. Dr. Zhu has won awards and grants for her research and studies
from Fudan University, Penn State University, the University of Illinois
at Chicago, and the business community. She has published in the European
Business Forum and Management Modernization (China). Her other work is
presently under review at the Journal of Marketing and other journals.
She has worked in the marketing divisions of OTIS Elevators (China) and
Proctor & Gamble (China), and cooperated in research projects for
Credit Suisse First Boston (China) and Bank of China. Dr. Zhu was the
Director and General Secretary of the Association of Chinese Scientists
and Engineers (USA) from 2000 to 2002. |
