After two decades of sustained economic reform, China is finally harvesting the fruits of its labor. It has emerged as a new growth engine for regional development and is playing an increasingly important role in the global economy. However, rapid economic growth has also brought about a multitude of issues that China must address in order to sustain its forward momentum. Market reforms have surged well ahead while social reforms lag behind, and China must carefully allocate its limited resources in order to balance the growth of the society as a cohesive entity.
